Dear Customer,
Greetings from the Lasater Ranch! Have you ever seen a porcupine up
close?
It's that time of
the month again! Once again, if you would prefer not to receive our
monthly newsletter in the future, please simply reply to this email
and write (Remove from List) in the Subject line. The best "remove
from list" request which we received last month said, "I like
your beef, not your spam".
In response to the
October newsletter, one of our customers from Savannah, Georgia had
a request for help in finding a good source of Organic Milk. If anyone
has any suggestions about organic milk in that part of the country,
please let us know and we'll pass on the information. You could also
post this information on our fancy new message boards (more about that
later).
Here are the monthly specials! Also, for additional savings (and potentially
some freebies!) , please see visit our website and click on Coupons/Prizes.
Read all about it in the website improvements section below.
1) "Assorted
Roast Special" Which will be an assortment of roasts for $24.00.
Three Assorted Roasts weighing approximately 3 lbs each. May include
any of the following roasts: English, Rump, Pot and Pikes Peak. This
is a very discounted price, so we'll surprise you with the choice of
roasts.
2) "Cube Steak" special: One pound of free ground beef during
the month of November when they buy an order of Cube Steak. The cube
steak order is four 6 to 8 oz steaks. This cut is great for making chicken
fried steak!
3) New York Steak special from last month. Buy an order of N.Y. Steaks
and get 2 lbs. of ground beef free (back by popular demand!)
You can order the
specials online this month. Just go to www.lgbeef.com and click on the
special you desire.
Red Alert: While
we are still on the subject of ordering beef. If you are thinking about
giving the gift of beef this holiday season, we want to give you some
advance warning about our holiday shipping schedule. The last day we
will ship for the holidays is December 15th. We will not ship product
out until January 5th after December 15th. Therefore if people are desiring
to order LGB for Christmas gifts or for themselves for the holidays,
they need to have their order in prior to Friday, December 12th.
It has been quite
an interesting month. China lobbed little Yang Liwei into orbit and
he returned safely to earth a few hours later, thus we welcome China
to the ranks of space faring nations! I am sure it was a nervewracking
day at the office for Yang.
In unrelated, but
perhaps more earthshattering and immediately relevant news, Jeff Bezos
had an absolutely staggering stroke of genius. Actually, it was not
his stroke of genius, but rather that of Udi Manber, an Israeli-born
computer scientist and author of a popular textbook, Introduction to
Algorithms: A Creative Approach. Anyway, Bezos' stroke of genius was
to realize Udi Manbers' stroke of genius and to act upon it. Thus was
born Amazons' latest service called Inside the book. Amazon has deftly
sidestepped the whole question of whether digital books offer strong
enough copyright protection for publishers, and with the blessing of
many of the major publishers they have digitally scanned 120,000 books
and they plan to make millions more available online soon. The big catch
at the moment is that you can only search the content of these books.
Trust me, buying these books in digital form will follow close behind
once publishers realize how dramatically selling digital books can improve
their business. At least Bezos has found a way to get all of these books
in digital form and available for that eventuality. My prediction? Millions
of books available for purchase via download at Amazon within one year
! Go to Amazon today and search to your hearts content. A very cool
feature indeed. To read a very good article on the subject, follow the
link below.

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, so I thought I would touch on
the subject of our nations bountiful harvest. There has been much discussion
about Genetically Modified foods in the press recently, and I think
it is an interesting subject however it is not really appropriate for
this forum.
What I do find interesting
about everything that you read in the press about GM foods, isn't what
they write, but what they don't write. The same can be said regarding
any articles in the press about the other large scale farming techniques
which we have come to rely on to provide our countries bountiful harvest.
These articles never
mention what is perhaps the most important thing about the food we eat.
The taste. Remember what a tomato used to taste like? Remember what
a chicken used to taste like? Remember what red meat used to taste like?
Everything you buy
in the supermarket these days is very big and very tasteless. This is
a very sad trend, because we are slowly losing one of the great reasons
to eat good food! The taste! It seems that people have been so engrossed
in the other issues about whether these foods or the pesticides which
are used to grow them are harmful to you and what not, that they've
forgotten to ask whether that colorless 10 pound tomato actually tastes
better than the bright red sun ripened 1 oz. Tomato. It doesn't! If
you haven't tried a sun ripened tomato recently, you better run out
and buy some, or better yet, plant some in your garden.
We don't only see
our mission as providing you with a healthy product, but we also want
to provide you with a tasty product. Lasater Grasslands Beef is what
red meat used to taste like. Our beef is actually red! Much of the beef
you see in the supermarket today will look reddish under the lights
which they have in the meat section, but when you get the meat home,
you'll be lucky if it even looks kinda pink. Usually it is light pink
or grey. That just isn't normal! Anyway, enough of the rant, enjoy the
beef!
Website Improvements
While China was
lobbing Li Wei into space, most of our month was spent with our heads
down finishing all of that vaporware which we promised last month. We
have added several new features to the website, and we hope they meet
with your approval. The first two features are the coupon and the prize
section. Those of you who like free stuff will really like these two
features!
The coupon section
allows you to give us a little help in spreading the good word and obtain
a $10 coupon (one coupo is redeemable on purchases over $125) You simply
send an email to 5 of your friends (immediate family members don't count
as friends, although they might be!) telling them about Lasater Grasslands
Beef (one coupon per family please !). We would love for you to send
an email to 100 friends telling them about our product, but lets see
how it goes with 5 people first!.
The Prize section
is where you can find our newest promotional feature, the monthly drawing!.
Every month we will have a drawing for a different product. This month,
the drawing will be for a ½ family sampler. We will hold the
drawing on the first day of the following month, so sign up today and
maybe you'll get an early Christmas present on December 1! (once again,
one entry per family please). Here is one strategy, for increasing your
odds of winning (or at least partially winning), which we wouldn't be
opposed to: tell your best friends about this drawing and have them
sign up for the drawing. If they win, maybe they will give you a roast,
or a steak or a couple of pounds of ground beef. The odds of winning
this prize are much better than the lottery!
The other section
which is of potential interest is the message board section. We welcome
any suggestions on topics for the forums. Our only request is that everything
on the message boards should be polite and happy! We hope this forum
will help people find other healthy foods and perhaps some other information
of interest to them.
Well, that is about
the sum of it out here. Until next month!
Hasta Luego,
Tom Lasater
