Does it seem like you just received the June newsletter? Time flies with the summer fun! Red alert for those of you who are in Colorado (or will be in the area later this month), and would like to come to the ranch to breathe some fresh air and decompress. We are having a field day on July 24th and we invite you, your family and friends to come out for a barbecue and a ranch tour. We will get started around noon. Please RSVP by phone 719 541 2855 or send me an email to tom@lgbeef.com and let me know how many people are in your party. I have mentioned Slow Food in past newsletters. Getting involved with Slow Food is a great way to find out about delicious niche food products. The front range chapter of Slow Food is holding a conference tomorrow and Sunday (July 9 & 10th ) called Westward Slow. If you happen to be in Denver and want to see what the Slow Food movement is all about, you can call 212 965 5640 for reservations or visit the website at www.westwardslow.com. If you want to find out what Slow Food is doing in other parts of the U.S. , you can visit their website at www.slowfoodusa.org . Did you receive our Happy Independence Day postcard? Did you see the glaring spelling mistake? If you have a keen eye and can still remember how I spelled Independence, you can use that rendition as a discount code for a huge discount on your next order. Ok, maybe not a huge discount! For those of you who missed the typo, you can use the discount code LGBJULY for a $10 discount. If your order is over $150, please use the discount LGB150 for an even bigger discount! The Hangar Steaks have been very popular, and we have a few more in stock, so if you missed out last month, you can get in on the action now. We are keeping most of the specials from last month, and adding a cube steak special as well as a Top Round special. Independence Month Specials 1. Summer Grill Special - The 35lb. box of ground beef at $3.30/lb continues to be extremely popular so we are going to keep it one more month. Your friends will love you when they find out you’ve got burgers for everyone! 2. Independent Sirloin Tip Special. We have sold out of the Top Sirloin, but we will continue the Sirloin Tip special while supplies last! Sirloin Tip $20/order. 3. Cube Steak special – Cube steak is great for Chicken Fried Steak! $8/order while supplies last! 4. Top Round Steak - At these prices, you can load up! $18 dollars for 4 steaks. 5. Attention Liver Lovers – At $2.00/lb liver is not just for breakfast anymore!. Liver is a great source of Iron. Liver is great for dogs, and at these prices you can afford to get some beef liver for your best friend! We have had many requests for Tri-tip roast, and we will start offering Tri-tip roast in a few weeks so keep your eyes peeled! I have just read a great book by Steven Johnson called Emergence –the connected lives of ants, brains, cities, and software. A great read! The August 2004 Technology Review (MIT’s magazine of Innovation), has several great articles. Solar-cell Rollout on page 35 talks about Cheap flexible solar cells printed on plastics. Computing Gets Physical on page 57 talks about gesture recognition for computers. Wearable Robots on page 70 talks about Exoskeletons which could be worn to give people super strength. Sounds pretty good, sign me up! Just to update you on the X prize. The test flight which
I mentioned last time was successful, but there was a little glitch
with the control mechanism which caused some problems for the pilot.
They seem to have found the cause and solved the problem, so Burt Rutan’s
company Scaled Composites will likely be trying for the X prize in 2
months time. The prize expires at the end of the year, so there will
probably be several other teams giving it a shot soon. See you next month! Best Wishes, Tom Lasater
