Happy February from the Lasater Ranch! This newsletter will be just like the month! Short and sweet!

Here is a picture of some tall Western Wheat Grass which grows on the ranch. This is good forage in the middle of winter when there is some snow on the ground.

Once again, if you would prefer not to receive our monthly newsletter in the future, please simply reply to this email and write (Remove from List) in the Subject line.

We are happy to announce that the monthly drawing section seems to be much more popular, now that it is working properly! Funny how that happens! The winner of the February drawing is Kate from Omaha Nebraska! I am sure it is cold in Omaha, so hopefully a big box of beef will warm things up. The odds of winning an individual sampler have gone down significantly, but are still better odds than the lottery, so I continue to recommend that everyone go and sign up to win some free beef. The ten dollar coupon is not very popular yet, but I also recommend that everyone give that a try also.

One alert reader, Inger Ellam, wrote me to point out that one thing I mentioned in the newsletter was www.tribe.net not www.tribe.net.

This month, we have received many very good questions through the contact us button on our website. Since these questions are quite relevant to our product and to people who enjoy healthy natural food, we will endeavor over the next few weeks to put these questions and the answers to the questions either in a FAQ (frequently asked questions) section of the site, or perhaps in the bulletin board section of the site. We thank everyone who took the time to write and ask questions as it helps us think about what is important to our customers.

For those of you who are interested in Open Source software, there is a new project which seems extremely interesting. Nutch is a new open source project which is building an open source search directory to compete with the likes of Google, Yahoo, Microsoft etc. Mitch Kapor the founder of Lotus 123 (anyone remember Lotus? http://www.kapor.com/homepages/mkapor/bio0701.htm ) is on the board as are several other tech industry luminaries. The success of these open source projects seems to ride on the leadership of one individual. Linux has become an open source phenomenon due to the steady leadership of Linux Torvalds, so hopefully Nutch has someone similar who is the driving force behind this project. If they do, I would guess that you will be hearing much about Nutch in the near future. You can read more about Nutch at http://www.nutch.org/docs/en/faq.html .

There was a great article in the February 2 business week about space travel titled Space Travel: Bringing Costs Down to Earth. The article talks about how Nasa needs some private competition in order to put some spark into the Space Industry. The X Prize was established in 1996 by Peter H Diamandis with the idea of getting private individuals to fund the next breakthrough in space travel. To win the X prize, “a privately developed spacecraft capable of carrying 3 people must soar to 100 kilometers, then pull off a repeat within two weeks. That would show the plane’s ability to operate like an airliner and potentially make space travel almost as routine as air travel has become since Lindhergh’s feat. “ What they don’t mention in the article which could be relevant for those of you who travel frequently to Asia is that this type of technology could cut the travel time to perhaps several hours. That would help out the old jet lag!

Until next month!

Best Wishes,

Tom Lasater
